There's a place in Brooklyn using these as their to go cups and the amount of nostalgia and good will it engenders is ridiculous. Who doesn't love these diner classics made in the fake grecian style of the 1970s once so ubiquitous in Greek greasy spoons (Greecey spoons?) and coffee carts that they were practically invisible. Design like everything else is about context I guess. I remember that when I had my first job in the city, proofreading long boring legal texts, I would stop at one of those carts in the fashion district near Madison Square Garden and pick up a coffee and an egg sandwich on a roll after riding the bus from my cousin's in New jersey. It felt like a foothold, a beginning. My trajectory since then has zigged and zagged and the coffee and everything else has gotten more expensive but I still treasure the symbols and friendships that have endured.
