I ride a train every weekday and have always loved train travel. Coming home the hour can seem interminable sometimes, especially in the dark. The passengers are bowed heads full of worry and exhaustion. On the way in I can examine the nuance of the sky, see the trees change from green to brown and watch the different kinds of birds starting their day. The ducks floating along being swayed by the waves, egrets looking imperiously over their habitat, seagulls swooping and the hawks supervising all with their long sloping flight - dominance through elegance. I sometimes think that heaven would be an endless train ride with all the books I can handle, a smoothly unfolding landscape outside my window and an unending supply of pens and notebooks. And then once in awhile all the people I love and loved would pass through and sit next to me. Or we'd meet in the dining car and sip on cocktails as the sky outside turned amber. And for a moment everything would stop as we looked outside and realized how lucky we were.
