This song has wrapped itself around my soul the way a vine twists itself around a staircase bannister. Part of the appeal is undoubtedly nostalgic, as listening to it unlocks doors in my memory where it plays in the background of childhood trips to the Steinberg's supermarket with my mum or on AM radio in the car as we drove into downtown Montreal on a Saturday afternoon to the Greek bakery. It has a spiral shape in my mind endlessly looping in on itself until you get mesmerized. And the harpsichord (is it a harpsichord?) suddenly feels like the greatest instrument ever invented. Yes, it can sound a little cheesy, especially in the middle bit which sounds like it could be used over the closing credits of a 1970s travel show (which it surely was). Then as it seems like it's about to end it briefly starts up again, like an expiring top taking a few final spins. It was used at the end of a Mad Men episode, which is perfect. Like it had been waiting its whole life to be called upon to do that.

Am I alone in this? I don't think so. Somebody has looped together a 32-minute version, which is kind of insane and somehow not quite long enough. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZxQivhTFd7Y
There are versions with vocals but that just ruins whatever spell it casts. Accept no substitutes.
