I go through my days consuming media and facts from every conceivable angle yet we all so little. That matters, I mean. It took 'till today for me to find out (or was it remember, because surely this fact was floating in the ether) that Paul McCartney wrote "When I'm 64" when he was 14. Think about that for a second. How precious do you have to be to paint such a vivid image of a retired couple? Even if it's a little cartoonish and fairy tale. Then I realised that he had lost his mother young. And the idea of a couple growing old together feels a lot weightier. It's a funny little song but it's also a wish fulfillment of sorts. A fantasy that couldn't be fulfilled. I was around 14 when I first discovered the Beatles with only the vaguest notions of what they meant to everything.
