This is Mangwon. It's one of my favorite neighborhoods and gets more favorite each time I go there. This is a is little Laotian restaurant I ate at. Actually it's a miniature scale model of a Laotian restaurant. Mangwon feels kind of like a movie set, too. The buildings seem to be on a smaller scale and the assortment of people walking or biking by feel a little like movie extras. Why is that? I'm not sure. It's a kind of spell. There are impossibly hip (but not insufferable) cafes alongside fruit and veg ladies bellowing out their bargains at the end of the day and dirty little alleys and design firms and an overall vibe that hits just right. Best of all, it's not too aware of itself. You can just stroll around and see what you see and there are no t-shirts for sale that say the name of the neighborhood you're in. It's up to you to remember it. And tell other people if you feel like it.
