It's odd to think how 2-dimensional old TV shows feel now. Until The Wire, it was basically just cops and robbers with the moral complexity of a kids game. Heroes like Colombo were quirky but not really complicated. When I'm feeling overworked or stressed out I still return to that old universe for comfort but it feels like I'm cheating myself a little. I'm finally watching the home stretch of Better Call Saul. I waited because I felt like I had to be ready for it - fully prepared and engaged to properly appreciate it. It's a show I want to be at my best for, which is probably the ultimate compliment.
