This unearthed documentary shot during the first year of Salvador Allende's ill-fated rule is a fascinating glimpse into the hearts and minds of the people that inspired his rise to power. Chile, like many (if not all) South American countries is a story of exploitation. On one side of the equation eager, amoral capitalists ripping resources out of the ground and treating workers, peasants and the indigenous population as a nuisance standing in the way of riches. The voice of the workers and the locals is given a stage and while it's arguably propaganda for the oppressed, it's a heartbreaking snapshot of what could have been in that part of the world and so many other corners of it. If nothing else it's irrefutable proof that those who opposed him over here, could never again claim that they were white-hatted defenders of democracy when the same pattern repeated itself all over the world.
