What is going on here? This is a genealogy tree in visual form of a family of alley cats cared for lovingly by a couple from a Seoul art studio. It's completely pointless and vitally important. Orwell once wrote something to the effect that you can judge a society by how it treats its animals. Koreans of the modern day treat their cats and dogs quite well. Cats appear in every corner of the city, usually doted on by local residents who feed them and provide them with timely scratches behind the ears. The cats repay them by being cute and - when the mood strikes them - returning the affection. I've been to other cities with large outdoor cat populations but the cats there are more like wild street urchins and seem to have to fend for themselves. The Korean cats are different and are venerated in drawings and photos and on mugs and t-shirts. Little citizens with nearly equal rights in a big metropolis.
