If I have a minute to spare on the way to the train in the morning I'll snap a photo. To prove that I was here. That my decision to leave the city and spend 2 hours on the train every weekday was the right one. Today was worth it. The pixels of the universe coalesced into a perfectly balanced portrait that I'd show to someone from another planet to tell, "This is one corner of the Earth, mostly undisturbed by us." One detail nudges itself into consciousness. That little boat. Like a toy from this distance, It looked like a rowboat with a couple of people in it on a frigid morning. What were they doing? Not fishing surely. Maybe they were placed there for me. To anchor my gaze and help me realize that I'm small, too, in the bigger scheme of things but necessary. For context.
