In Mad Men, Don Draper sometimes gets lost in the pattern on the drop ceiling as he stares up at it in reverie. The show was especially good at capturing that sort of vague anomie one experiences in an office setting  as if you are suddenly uprooted from your surroundings and weightless. On this day it occurred for me as I encountered my shadow, which at that moment felt like it could usurp me. Then I shook my head and got on with it.
