Koreans have a reputation of working excessively hard and not taking enough vacation time. From this insight you might think they take everything too seriously. Then you look out your hotel window and see this. A spam lobster (?) looking fierce as it explodes out of a tin can, some of the spongey meat product still clinging to its head like a beret. This spam worship is everywhere in Korea and to an outsider, deeply weird but fun. While Americans abandoned the WW II-era product decades ago, Koreans have embraced it like a family member and adapted it to feature in many dishes. Elaborate shrink-wrapped gift sets featuring varieties of spam are a common holiday present. You might not truly get it, though, until you taste a Budae Jigae (army stew). You'll never look at it the same way again
