To write a new thing you need to start with a blank page of some kind. Wether a piece of paper, which has a more tactile satisfaction, or an electronic one that can be generated an infinite amount of times, which makes it seem a little less precious somehow. But the blank page for it to work effectively has to erase all that came before it. If you want to create something truly original I mean. You have to forget all the ways you looked at a thing - like they never existed. That's not easy. In a life of moderate length you have been subjected to thousnds of perspectives as well as your own in constant flux. But when you see a blank page you have to be like an actor or a good hockey goalie. Reacting instead of anticipating. Look at a rose and try to forget what Shakespeare said about a rose by any other name. Impossible. So then forget it's a rose you're looking at. It's simply a thing of nature of a certain colour and its meaning to you at that moment is all that matters. And be confident or comfortable that your perspective has weight and the words you send out into the world are strong enough to survive on their own. With no explanation.
