After a new snow, the ground is a pure unscathed white that is almost angelic. Then it gets perforated by a tiny sparrow's feet, like thumbprints on a pie crust. Then another bird. A bigger one. Then soon there is a profusion of animal steps of all different sizes and magnitude, arcing around each other and crossing one another. From above it looks a little like one of those dance diagrams from the '60s demonstrating a waltz or a cha-cha. What a privilege to be surrounded by all these critters and have a record of their dances across the temporary tundra. Like a snowy animal diary.
