The first thing I notice usually is the sound after a snowfall. All the noises are cushioned a little. And there's a kind of echo as the snow has created a corridor or a valley. And then there are the sharp noises that are unmistakably related to the freshly fallen snow. The scraping of a snow plow against pavement or a shovel hitting a frozen driveway. Kids' voices squeal as they're hit by wet snowballs. And then there is the bluish hue that seems to cover everything. Especially as the day wears on and the blanket of snow covering the ground becomes a kind of frozen sea reflecting the sky that made it. I'm convinced I sleep more peacefully and deeper on these days.
