Paris is more than a city in the geographical sense. It lives inside our minds with varying degrees of verity and for many people it exists as a kind of beacon of lost hope as a place where one could live freely if all else fails. Best not to test that theory lest it's found wanting. Better yet to keep it nourished a few drops at a time...a 10-hour layover between flights so fleeting it will feel like a dream. Agnes Varda's famous Rue Daguerre immortalized in a short film still lives and breathes to feed a yearning. At 1 am the cafes and bars still bustle and glow under the street lamps. If you want to have a dream of quitting it all and joining an accordion school you can. There it is. The sound that emanates from you as you walk the streets is a dull melodic moan, like the sound from the guts of an instrument played for the first time in a long time...a little off-key but authentic.
