People who market smart phones tout the ever-increasing fidelity of their cameras. The resolution and convenience has increased to the point that we don't even remember what came before. Digital cameras feel like a quaint interlude between the traditional film era and the camera-phone revolution. But for all their wonder they can't capture certain things well or at all. I have yet to take a picture of the moon that conveys what I see. This above is my attempt to take a photo of fireflies. Impossible. A short video worked a bit better. But I'm heartened to know that the experience of real life in real time is still unrivaled. The late evening light flooding the room I'm in is for now safely shrouded in the mystery of the moment. Technological advances continue to race headlong towards accuracy right past truth.
