Every day is a tug of war between beauty and banality. Look the wrong way and you can end up utterly bereft. The humour is always there and the art down some aisle or other, it's just sometimes we quit looking before we find it.  McLuhan said that artists are the "antennae of the race" - at some forefront that is constantly changing from zeitgeist to retrograde and sometimes reversing on itself. Soup cans as art is a concept older than me. But for a fluorescent-lit second it felt new again.
