When you take the same train nearly every day your mind tends to wander as you stare out the plexiglass window. Today I looked over and noticed the cliff face the tracks were built alongside. And I travelled back to the labour that must have been expended to make this trip happen. The men toiling for hours. The engineers double and triple checking dry calculations. The machines invented to defeat the stubborn will of dense rock. The dream never extending so far into the future to imagine the utter indifference of passengers staring downward into a vast universe of simulacrums.
