The world has never seemed to be so tilted in favour of the few. Maybe in the time of kings? But even then they could not infiltrate your homes with their tools of surveillance. We didn't all rely on the raw materials of our daily life being provided by an increasingly emboldened oligarch class in partnership with antidemocratic leaders opposed by vast majorities of the public. Yet we pay for these shackles and maintain them and fawn over new inventions that surveil us and keep us sated by conveniently delivered junk and disingenuously presented propaganda. Consumers of the world unite you have nothing to lose but your algorithms...or something like that.
I've never felt this powerless, this at the mercy of events and people who have instrumentalized the population against itself. What recourse do we have? I marched with the others. I boycott and refuse and shun. Yet the destruction goes on...like the sound of a car door being sheared off by a mack truck taking a corner too closely...that sickening sound of irreparable damage being done by a massive more powerful entity against a smaller one. Or the silent malevolent onslaught of a virus infecting every function of the body, incapacitating your will to resist.
I've been a little amazed by my fellow citizens embrace of AI, as if it's a new toy. A technological frisbee to be tossed around then discarded when the next thing comes out. Am I paranoid to see all these things as links on a chain? Billions are generated by the social media companies as they condition us into lives of self absorption, realizing too late we are all the Christians in the arena being fed to the lions.
